American Library Association Periodicals

Periodicals of the American Library Association divisions and division sections, offices, and round tables, in alphabetical order

This is a list of the various newsletters, magazines, and journals published within the American Library Association, including those which are only available online. This list is in alphabetical order by title.

A brief profile is offered of each title; it includes the name and e-mail address of the editor(s), the ISSN, the publishing frequency per year, the subscription cost per year, and contact information for placing a subscription order. Availability of a website is indicated, as are the titles with advertising opportunities.

  • American Libraries Direct (AL Direct). An electronic newsletter sent by e-mail every Wednesday freely available to everyone by request. AL Direct calls attention to new items on the ALA website (including American Libraries news stories, press releases and other news from ALA divisions and offices, and a calendar of events), as well as practical, informative, and entertaining library-related news and tidbits found elsewhere online.


ANSS (Anthropology and Sociology Section) Currents. Anthropology and Sociology Section (ANSS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). Editor, Jenny Bowers. ISSN 0888-5559.    base line. Official publication of the American Library Association's Map and Geography Round Table (MAGERT). Editor, Steve Rogers. ISSN 0272-8532. Published electronically six times a year: February, April, June, August, October, and December. Members of MAGERT can access issues of base line online, including the most current issue, as a benefit of their memberships.       - Three newsletters feature Web exclusive content--Editors' Picks, Hot Topics, and ShelfLife. These timely compilations are updated each month with notable reviews in their subject areas. They include links to Choice Reviews Online, where subscribers can read the reviews online.

      - The Forthcoming Titles e-newsletter provides extensive coverage of soon-to-be published titles, each focusing on a particular subject (e.g., Reference, Political Science, Women's Sudies, Science & Technology). These popular features, which appear in CHOICE, are now freely available to a wider audience via the newsletter. Links throughout the newsletter allow readers to browse specific subject areas.

      - The Internet Resources e-newsletter features reviews of Web sites from the current issue of Choice.
