Who, me? An advocate?
Yes, you!
While library administrators can, and should take a leadership role in rallying public support, everyone in the library family—all staff, trustees and Friends—has a role to play.
This can be as simple as reminding your family and friends what a bargain the library is, letting them know about new services or sending a letter of support to a legislator or official.
A Friends of the Library group or your Board of Trustees can be the nucleus of your advocacy effort. Parent councils, PTAs, faculty and other groups with similar concerns are other possibilities.
If you are organizing around a ballot question—a new building or other referenda—you will need a dedicated citizen or community group authorized to receive and spend funds for political purpose.
