ALA President Hosts Summit on a National Library AgendaAmerican Library Association President Leslie Burger is gathering some 40 policy and decision-makers at the ALA Washington Office December 10–11 for a National Library Agenda Summit. One of the summit’s major agenda items is building a case for investing in libraries at the local, state, and national levels.“It’s time to put our heads together to decide what we need to make every library—school, public, academic, and special—the best it can be for the community it serves,” Burger said. “It’s time for us to develop our legislative agenda, seek legislators who want to transform library service for all users, and get the agenda adopted.” Participants will address such questions as: What are emerging community needs and how might libraries serve them? What can libraries do to transform communities? and What are the key points of a national library agenda? Burger said the summit will result in a draft plan that will be available for review and comment at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle, January 19–24.
