Welcome to LLAMA! I am honored to serve as LLAMA’s President for 2008-09. My theme for this year is “Take the lead @ your library”. My goal is to focus attention on the addition of “leadership” to the name of our division as well as to encourage library staff at all levels to “take the lead”. We are eager to continue our efforts not only to serve current library leaders but also to nurture those who want to move into leadership positions. By inviting all library workers to “take the lead”, we hope to open doors for newer members of the library community to prepare for the leadership positions of tomorrow. I want to thank you for visiting our website. LLAMA staff and volunteers are working very hard to improve the website in just about every way you might imagine. We are looking at making sure not only what you need is on the website but also that it is easy to find. We are also looking more strategically at the website to make sure that we are addressing big picture issues as well. Our strategic plan sets some lofty goals for us in four areas: value to members; leadership and management; education; and organizational excellence. The potential of the website links strongly to all four of these areas. We encourage you to share your ideas with us about what you would like to see. And then we ask that you check back with us frequently and get ready for us to launch a greatly overhauled website – though still a work in progress – sometime in early 2009. LLAMA’s strength comes from its engaged membership. So “take the lead” and then stay involved with us as we become the foremost organization developing present and future leaders in library and information services. Molly Raphael
