Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section (STARS)
The Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section (STARS) brings together librarians and library staff involved with interlibrary loan, document delivery, remote circulation, access services, cooperative reference, cooperative collection development, remote storage, and other shared library services as well as publishers, producers, and suppliers of products and services which support resource sharing activities.
Message from the Chair
I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead STARS during its fourth year as a section of RUSA. We’re still a relatively new section and we’re off to a great start! Our fast-growing membership is at almost 800 and counting. We also have 16 committees and task forces and two discussion groups working to advance the broad agenda of resource sharing and to foster the continued growth of STARS, itself. You can find out about current STARS activities in the most recent RUSA Update. Please also take a look at the STARS brochure describing our section and how to participate.
We welcome the involvement of librarians and library staff engaged in interlibrary loan, document delivery, remote circulation, access services, cooperative reference, cooperative collection development, remote storage, and other shared library services as well as publishers, producers, and suppliers of products and services which support resource sharing activities. There are many advantages to serving on a STARS committee, including professional and personal growth, networking, and developing a record of professional service. If you’re interested in getting involved with STARS, please complete a committee interest form. Please note that most committee appointments are made in the spring of each year by matching STARS members' interests and background with the section's needs, but appointments are also made at other times during the year as vacancies arise.
STARS-L provides news and information about RUSA-STARS programs and activities of interest to those involved with resource sharing and access services in all types of libraries. The list also serves as means for subscribers to communicate with other list members, including STARS leaders. This list is now open to all interested persons.
I hope you’ll become involved with STARS and help us continue to enhance the delivery of resource sharing and access services in all types of libraries.
Sincerely,
Margaret Ellingson
STARS Chair
